I saw on G4 that some senators were pissed about not being able to get an iPhone because it costs too much to get out of their contract. So guess what they're doing. Trying to pass legistlation that makes it illegal to keep a certain phone exclusive to one company ala the iPhone. Have you guys heard anything about this? How badly do you think they'll get laughed at when they propose this to the Supreme Court?

they don't propose legislation to the supreme court. besides the legislationw ouldn't be unconstitutional, so what does the supreme court have to do with anything? that law will never pass since companies have the right to create products exclusive to their company

BESIDES, THERE IS A HUGE TECHNOLOGICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UMTS AND GSM PHONES! Some carriers use GSM towers and other use UMTS, and some use both but only in select areas. So how would you use a UMTS cell phone (a Nextel phone, for example) on a GSM network like AT&T?

IMPOSSIBLE, MR. SENATOR!

R, you would be fine with a law forcing manufacturers to sell to all phone companies?

Kent_shakespeare, that isn't competition. Competition would be another phone company designing their own phone to do the same thing OR another manufacturer doing the same.

BTW, if you don't want a contract, don't sign one.

You guys are pathetic. The government has no business in this.
