......"As an emergency response to the 1973 oil crisis, the U.S. Congress and President Nixon imposed a nationwide 55 mph speed limit in 1974 by requiring the limit as a condition of each state receiving highway funds, a use of the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution"

Because they're unaware of the history of the speed limit reduction. This happens with Carter too. He's blamed on this board for wage/price controls which were instituted under Nixon, and gas rationing which happened under Ford.

It was Nixon and due to the Oil Embargo of 1973. By the way, it took 24 years to get it back to the old standard of driving on interstates at 70 MPH - a privilege we paid for with the building of interstate highways that were built for speed - and not much else!

What was Reagan being blamed for? You lost us on that one, my friend.

The 55 speed limit predates him, but the 65 started either late in his term or early in Bush's (the elected one); I forget.

Reagan is to blame for gutting alt-energy initiatives, though. Oil lobby contributions took priority over national interests, then as now.

For the same reason people blame Carter for problems started during Nixons administration

You are right. I saw that same remark and my immediate thoughts were very similar.

Ironic that a liberal would argue against saving natural resources in the first place.

But, when all is said, it is just another example of the idiocy inherent to lib ideology: advocating that an individual's personal freedom and rights should supersede our nation's best interests.

Not sure what you are asking. Why, or maybe where, was Reagan blamed, and for what? You lost me.

Blame him for what? Your question does not make any sense.
