The application could likewise be applied to conservative. The two terms do not describe a particular party but a philosophy of government. The two philosophies are opposing as the two parties are opposites. What would happen if a third major party incorporating the concepts of both liberals and conservatives were to suddenly emerge in the political field?

Yes I read it, and I still hate the bunny huggin, tree kissin, limp wristed, tofu fartin fairy liberals. If liberals had their way entirely, then America would not exist. it would be all homosexual, vegetarian, flag burning, abortion having, atheistic, illegal alien, sissy marys, who will sue you if they don't like a single word you say, and God forbid if you say something about another race or foriegner. There would be no more churches, the government would be non existant. Other countries would own and control us. If you don't believe me, then listen to Sean Hannitty, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and others like them. Liberals are evil, plain and simple. God Bless America, and God Bless Christian Conservatives like me and millions like me. Ok, I'm off my soap box now. Take care.

Many of our founding fathers referred to themselves as being liberals while today's liberal professors call them conservatives. Do to the increase in extreme leftism in the U.S., those founding fathers are no longer seen by modern liberals as being liberal.
Democrats today are no longer Democrats. The Democrat party has been hijacked by hippies. The current Democrat party has nothing in common with Democrat presidents like FDR, Truman, LBJ, or JFK. Even the Democat Party's own chief has said he disagrees with what FDR did to protect America during WWII(not talking about concentration camps).
Both Democrats and Republicans decades ago hated hippies. Now we have Democrat congress members that admit they support the hippie agenda (yesterday's flower children have become today blooming idiots). Also, some of Democrats in congress were hippies decades ago.
Liberals in congress, along with former President Clinton, are responsible for most of the "social decay" in this nation's largest cities.
Liberal: "Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas"
Liberal is a word that originated two thousand years ago.
