NO. he is a tortoise. He needs a uvb light or he will develope metabolic bone disease, (with out it he cant absorb calcium). he needs a basking area providing a temp of 85-90 degrees, a hide box and an area around 70-75 degrees. an aquarium of the same size would be more suitible, a shallow water dish and the humidity in the cage should be about 60-65 percent. your hide box should be in the cooler end of the aquarium. they like romaine or leaf lettuce, carrots, mustard and dandelion greens, small amounts of fruit. use a sand or carpet for the bedding. I prefer sand and dirt mix bedding as they like to burrow in the wild. did you do any research prior to getting this turtle? I always tell customers to research before buying, it prevents people making spur of the moment purchases and an animal being in the wrong environment. Most people have no idea how expensive it is to start out with a reptile maintenance is not bad but set up is hard on the purse. oh by the way the uvb bulb must replaced every six monthe even if not burned out as they loose their strength and it is a spendy peice of the equippment. i also put plants in the terrarium as well. I think it is important to make it like their home in the wild.

Sounds pretty good to me, but from what I read a 50 gallon tub with a 100 watt light would be better. Make sure the log and water dish are at opposite ends of the container and that you turn off the light at night so the tortoise has a night time temperature drop.
I included a link to a russion tortoise care sheet that has a lot of info on it if you want to know more.

That setup is NOT okay, don't listen to the first few posters. You need to provide your tortoise with a heat lamp for basking (if your 50-watt light is a heat lamp, it should be okay, but not if it's a regular light bulb) in a spot in the tank, and you have to give the turtle a full-spectrum UV light. This means UVA and UVB to simulate the sun; otherwise, your turtle will develop a soft shell and bone disease and will most definitely die. I would research substrate (the stuff you put on the bottom of the container) as well. Also provide it with a good diet of fruits and vegetables.

1. Why 20?
2. Size of tortoise?
3. Actual temps and humidity in house?
Russians like slightly warm temps, and decent humidity with at least a higher humidity hiding place. They also do a LOT better in bigger tubs and even better yet outside.

hi Nikie. honestly, i may well be shocked in case you acquire *one* good answer to this. No-you would be able to in all hazard tell the place your cat would have have been given to. the only component i'm able to inform you is that as quickly as a pregnant cat is approximately to furnish start, she would have the capacity to get your hands on the main secure place she would have the capacity to discover to have her kittens. often it is in a cabinet on your place on precise of your acceptable clothing. yet whilst she is exterior, she would desire to be everywhere. i may well be vulnerable to look in places that she would have the capacity to circulate slowly into so she would have the capacity to sense secure. not an difficulty-free activity, i know, yet I want you success.
