why is it that communists and other leftists claim that communism never existed in eastern europe? with this logic, you can say capitalism never existed in america, thus discrediting the blame that leftists put on the "capitalist machine"(america). i think capitalism exists in america to some extent(we still have government schools without vouchers, abusive teacher unions, welfare programs, income tax(which actually lowers gov't revenue), and sometimes affirmative action), but i also think communism existed in eastern europe.

cora, the CPUSA claims that socialism is the best replacement for capitalism, yet they call themselves "communists". the two words either have the same meaning, or they just cant make up their minds.

Capitalism in the US is closer to Corporatism. Small businesses and entrepeneurs aren't valued but large mutinational corporations are favored by every part of the government. They call that favoritism capitalism and scare you with Communism when there is no risk the US will become Communist. Meanwhile the corporations pay little taxes, reap record profits, the CEOs record salaries.

It is virtually impossible to find a purely Communist or Capitalist state.

"Unless you become more watchful in your States and check this spirit of monopoly and thirst for exclusive privileges you will in the end find that the most important powers of Government have been given or bartered away, and the control of your dearest interests have been passed into the hands of these corporations."
--President Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address, March 4, 1837

Because communism is complete ownership of all property by the community (govt). No country in Europe has achieved that.

The USSR -- Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics -- was the closest, but they allowed private ownership of property, with govt ownership of resource production and distribution. By the dictionary definition of the terms, that's socialism, not communism.

You can make up definitions to change the words if you want, but if you go by the dictionary definitions, the answer is pretty obvious.

Many places in Eastern Europe have people that are poorer than the people in Mexico.

Poverty is not a good reason to let illegal aliens into America. If we were going to let people in based on poverty then we would have to kick out all illegal aliens from Mexico, and then let people in from Eastern Europe, remote areas of Russia, etc.
