totally takes over? Like..you don't feel like doing anything except curling up in a ball until it goes away? Is there any other kind of pain that makes you feel that way?

I think any kind of pain can make you feel like that, especially internal pains. I have had UTI's that make me want to curl up, but unfortunately I have to be on the toilet most of the time.
If your cramps are that bad, you should talk to your doctor. I had bad cramps for years, and am now finding out that I may have endometriosis.

Crap yau i see my self in pain when i have a baby which will not be anytime soon come on im only 17 lol still have awhile.
I feel as if i cant handle the pain from the period than i dont think im ready to have somethings ten times worse in pregnancy. It must be nice for the guys snce they just get to watch lol.

Endometriosis causes pain like that. It feels like menstrual cramps but 5 times worse and the pain gets worse during your period. You should definetly see your gyn if you're having this kind of pain and it's not assosciated with your period. Get checked out. Trust me.

I used to get really bad spasms in my back...the muscles surrounding my spine would contract and it was so painful. It was near the bottom of my back so they actually felt like period pains. It was difficult to differentiate between the two but after I started passing out with the pain my doctor put me on a form of morphine which really helped.
