Yes... very fair. Two AMAZINGLY talented players that put up great numbers and played fantastic defense. Both hit over 500 HRs with a HUGE number of missed games.

Oh, and of course both players are key to conversations that begin...
"How great would he have been without all of those injuries???"

Oh, there is one place you cannot compare them... after all how often did Junior hit from BOTH sides of the plate?

It's a fair comparrasion....NOW.
Then....I really don't think. Players were different back then. They didn't know if they would have a team the next season. Mantle of course would have but he still played like he would not. Griffy....a great player indeed....gets hurt & goes on the DL. Of course they are true DL injurys but Mantle and all the players of that era would play through pain, sprains, and what have you. So yes it is a great comparrasion, but I still have to give Mantle the nod!

Great question though!

Yes, but I would say that Ken Griffey Jr is more like Willie Mays.

VERY fair. Both have that charisma. If Mantle had the sports medicine in his day that they have now, he'd be about where Griffey is now. Both were upbeat players, good for the game, winsome, and both had that magic when they homered. I've seen them both play.

Any two players can be compared, even if one is much better than the other.

You DID NOT provide info information or conclusions for us to look at. You did not compare them!

So tell us what you think. THEN we can say if you are being fair.

Yes, but I agree with dude58677. Griffery is more like Mays because in his prime he was an unbelievable defensive CF.

The Mick would drink Jr. under the table. No comparison

What are you comparing, drinking skills? That is the only way Mantle is in Griffey's class because that's the only way he is better.
