As of now, 5 years and you have to have a command of the Ukrainian language. Russian will not suffice.

of course not is so difficult to received the Ukraine citizen, today the rules for everybody in most of the countries in Eastern Europe and changed. For Americans now Is not easy to get the residence in Ukraine or Russia, is not easy to get the residence in China or Thailand, the time are changed, the only u can get is the "green card" or the residence if you marry with a Ukraine citizen, but nothing much. Ahhh don't waste your time in those sites that offer you citizen and jobs in Ukraine those are scam.
But if you want to live for long time in Ukraine learn the russian and the Ukraine language. In some places u have to speak in ukraine not in russian. English?? well everybody speak english.

Perhaps the worst thing about becoming a citizen of Ukraine is that you must renounce any other citizenship you may have. Which means that officially you will become a foreigner in your country of birth. And you will need to get a visa to go back home.
Ukraine doesn't allow people to have dual citizenship the way USA and some other countries allow.

I'm Ukrainian. I don't think it's a good idea to get Ukrainian citizenship now. Don't listen to the stupidity about a war, but if you really want to live there, you may learn a rules of the residence for foreigners and study at least Russian to communicate. By the way, you can't receive a citizenship easily, if you are not from the country of the 1st world.

In Ukraine 60% speak at native russian lang,but use ukrainian too,so but you need learn ukrainian at first if want to became citizen of Ukraine...BUT WHY YOU WANT IT???....There soon would be civil war.....crisis in country every season......

Language - one, Ukrainian (Russian is fine, as well.)
As for other rules, do not trust "experts" here. Just call Ukrainian consulate in San Francisco or the embassy in Washington, DC.
