Dreams come in many forms. Recently I heard on the TV news that dreams are a reflection of what occured during the day before the dream. Wow! that is so simplistic. If I start doing the things that are in my dreams...
Another comparison of dreams is that they are like the computer doing its updates, defrags, etc. Your mind is trying to clear out all the debris and categorizing things.
But, hey, the thing of it is, no two people have the same relationship to their dreams as another person. I used to study all those books that claimed to interpret dreams and came to realize that it is like becoming rich: it might work for ONE person ONE time, but that's it.
I have had a number of dreams (over the years) in which events in my dreams came true. With all I have read and the number of movies, TV shows, etc., based on such things, there is no doubt whatsoever that dreams (not the Martin Luther King's "I have a dream..." but those movies that run through your head while asleep) do come true.
Read the Bible; there are a lot of situations wherein dreams come true, dreams are interpreted, etc. But, as they say, to interpret a dream properly, the person interpreting the dream must know all about the persons life; Freud put much significance upon a person dreaming about a horse. For a rancher to NOT dream about a horse would be significant!
Me, I think that, in part, dreams are our connections with the "beyond", the "past", the "ether" or whathaveyou.
Don't forget: the biologists, based on "man is descended from a single cell organism living in murky seas" claim that dreams are merely a way to keep people quiet so predators don't eat them. The problem is, too many people thrash around in their sleep, sleep walk, talk, cry out...
You just need to see what fits your life best.

Theories of dreaming have varied widely over time and across cultures. To the ancients, dreams were regarded as messages from the gods or as oracles to predict the future. It was widely believed that dreams had the power to solve problems, heal sickness and bring spiritual revelation. In more recent times, dreams became of subject of psychological and scientific investigation. Widely recognized as the product of the unconscious mind, dream activity is now measured in sleep laboratories.
During the day, the conscious mind is in control and we negotiate the everyday world through reason and logic. At night, the unconscious mind takes over and enters the dream world, using visual imagery, symbols and metaphors. These can elicit a deep emotional response.
"We are such stuff and our little life is rounded with a sleep"-William Shakespeare, The Tempest-
In my opinion, dreams are a manifestation of your own guilt.

Many of them are concerned simply with the day’s activities or preoccupations and have little to offer as symbolic expressions of the unconscious. However, many other dreams have a definite, purposeful structure, and their symbols point to an underlying idea or intention. These dreams are the language our unconscious uses to talk to our conscious mind. The general function of dreams that are rich in symbolic meaning is to restore one's psychological integrity, or wholeness

dreams are pretty much a piece of thoughts that are stuck in your head from the day. yes, they can come true but really rarely. sometimes when you go to bed, you think of something or someone. so when you go to sleep, you forget about it and you dream about that though.

I believe (because I Dream Weird stuff all the time) it is particles of things we saw or heard of during the day that we really didn't pay a lot of attention too and then it comes to us at night just to mess with us.

dreams are an alternate reality few people can control, but in which we all exist. accessing that alternate existence is possible in states of mind other than sleep, from what i understand. to visualize something you want to occur is a form of dreaming, and in that sence i think dreams come true. recurring nightmares, in my life anyway, were premonitions of things to come, and once that event occurred in my consciuos life, the nightmare stopped.

AI think dreams are an expression of what we're thinking, our hopes, fears, and random things that are on our minds. It's the minds muddled and free way of expressing what we're thinking when we're asleep.
