My daughter would continue asking me something till I tell her to be quiet , the wife will just ignore me if she is set on something unless I really blow up which very seldom happens.

Depends on who it is. My kids I still am saying it for something last week.
Others well I think once should be enough. If they keep harping you then one Big NO and that should be it. No is a complete sentience.
