Because we usually become better people through adversity. Just because people are Christians doesn't necessarily make them nice. In fact often religion is the perfect smoke screen for ignorance, abuse, control & all the other evil things that often many decent people are acused of being - such as gay people. Personally I stay away from these religious snobs. I have my own relationship with God, & I know God loves me. I don't need some narrow minded bigot to tell me what I can & can't do.

I can only answer from my experience. I was brought up in a very strict, fundie Christan background. We were taught basically to be snobby, because 'we know through faith, all the answers and it is a God-given right.' I found that those people were extremely judgmental, negative, were constantly gossiping, and finding fault with everything and everybody. I don't like people who talk behind my back. I never felt that way, I don't feel Jesus was, and I feel it is wrong. I am not like that. I asked questions, and when I realized that it was a bunch of brainwashing and BS I got out of church. Now, I have been black-balled...so be it.
IMHO, the reason the other person who was abused is kind, is because she knows how bad a person can feel. Pain changes a person, they grow....
If that person is snubbing you, be kind, but walk away. You do not need that negativity in your life. Be kind to the person who needs that kindness, and show that person that there are loving people out there.

I was sexually abused as a child, and I was brought up as a christian. I'm a nice person, but it has nothing to do with how I was brought up or what tragic thing happened to me as a child.

Calling yourself a christian does not make you a nice person, an honest person, decide your sexuality, or stop you being a thief or a liar. I think that in most cases it makes you a hypocrite
