The treatment you received was absolutely correct. sprained ankles take longer to heal Then a broken bone. The slouch socks she talked about can be purchased at most stores. I've enclosed a link where you can see exactly what they look like.

An orthopedist knows what they are talking about. Slouch socks are also available at any department store.....they have the "normal" foot but a higher and wider top - and the "slouch" down around the ankle - leg warmers work, too. Your doctor must be correct and doesn't want you uncomfortable in the air cast, nor walking on the foot before it's healed...if you don't have faith in your ortho, go to another for a second opinion, but I think she knows the protocol for a severe sprain....they can be more painful than a break, so be careful Good luck!

The slouch socks are to absorb perspiration and for comfort reasons, so the air cast does not rub spots raw on your leg. The air cast is a wonderful tool to allow you to strengthen the muscles to keep you from reinjuring that ankle as it will be weaker until it heals.
If you can't find slouch socks, then buy some big socks such as men's tube socks, that go to your knee. I think they would work just as well, you could put one on all the way to your knee and put another over it and slouch it.
As far as the 3 week time frame goes, I wouldn't chance reinjury, so I would listen to the doctor on that. It's better to be safe than sorry!!
Good luck and I hope you heal fast!! :)

She is right to put you in an air cast with slouch socks. Give those tendons Time to heal. Other wise you have a weak ankle prone to injury.

My ex-husband severely sprained his ankle once. He was told by the doctor that some sprains can actually be worse than a clean break. After seeing the misery he endured, I would have to agree.
The socks you're referring to can actually be picked up at any of the Walgreen's that carry orthopedic supplies. The three weeks she told you sounds consistent with what my ex went through. It took all of three weeks before he was able to get up and about without the aid of crutches.
I will add, though, that he's been plagued with this ankle for years since the injury. It's sensitive to long periods of walking, and more readily sprained than it was prior to "the accident."
It sounds like the doc is trying to prevent you re-injuring the ankle, like my ex frequently did thereafter. I would follow his/her advise to the letter.
I wish you the best and hope you have many people to pamper you during your confinement.
Robin :)

Yes, that sounds pretty normal. Slouch socks are just long socks that are very loose. You can buy regular socks that are knee length and loose at most any discount or department store. You might try buying a size or two larger than you normally wear. Some stores also call them "sleep socks". You just want to make sure that whatever sock you wear does not compress the injured foot and interfere with circulation.

do no longer pass to A GP. they do no longer consistently comprehend the thank you to handle or maybe comprehend a sprain. pass to an orthopedic healthcare expert. They very often can deal alongside with your venture. do no longer pass to the ER cuz they're going to easily provide you crutches and an aircast and deliver you on your way. AN orthopedic healthcare expert grants you a referral for actual scientific care which will help you to no longer sprain your ankle lower back. good success!

Yes that sounds like good treatment for a sprained ankle. It should be good to stay off of it...my doctor kept me on my ankle that I sprained 4 weeks ago, and it's still no healing well, and it's super painful. Good luck!
