the only things i can see positive in my life are that i am young, 18, and that i am in good physical condition. I have things that i want to do but not many, and even fewer people to do these things with, it isnt that i dont have friends. i have a healthy amount of friends, but for some reason i just dont feel connected to anybody, or anything and i find myself always bored and discontent with my situation.

i want to have a purpose in life, but i dont think there is a purpose. i feel like i shouldnt be in my current position like i was meant to be born under different circumstances. i feel like i should be exposed to the public and lead the world into a new era of humanity or something of the sorts.

a lot of rambling in there but this is sort of a stream of conciousness explanation of how i feel at the moment

Lead the world?

By yourself?

Are you planning on going to college?

If not, you should.

That way you can be exposed to a lot of things, and that will help you figure out where you want to put the bulk of your energies.

We none of us HAVE a purpose in life; we CHOOSE our purposes.

If you want to help make things better (a worthy goal I encourage you to pursue), understanding things better -- what, exactly, is wrong and why, and what, exactly can be done about it -- is invaluable.

In the meantime, you could give some of your time and energy to helping out right now.

There are a lot of people actively helping others, or working toward positive change.

Join them; learn from help; help them out.

Thinking that you can suddenly stand up and say "This is the way; everyone follow me" is grandiose.

Being realistic is effective; gradniose, not so much.

So learn. Understand your world better. Find out what other people are doing, what's been tried, what works, what doesn't work.

Life is for living and the more optimistic you become about yourself and your life, the happier you will be.

Try absorbing yourself in some new hobby. Get involved.

People who live to a ripe old age will tell you the same thing, that they're constantly learning something new and look forward to each and every day.

The world is no different than it was when I was young. We had come out of WW2 and were struggling through the austerity years of shortages and rationing. We remained optimistic and looked forward to a brighter future.

Your life is only just beginning and you are on the threshold of adulthood and the great adventure.

I am just starting a new adventure myself. It's called retirement. When I wake up each morning my first realisation is that I do not have to bother going to work. There isn't any. So, I doodle about on here for a while, then do some gardening, maybe a stroll around the shops or not, then pop into a pub for lunch or something like that.

Home again for another hour or two of snarling on Yahoo Answers. Great fun.

Used to be a telegrapher, hence the high speed typing thing. Still hit 80 wpm sometimes.

There is always a purpose in life, you are only 18 so you will find that purpose, just give yourself time. Why not join a club or go out with your friends soon to meet new people. I think joining a club and discovering what you are good at is your best bet, you will feel a sense of purpose and want to get better at it. Look around you...Good Luck!

It sounds to me as if you're suffering from Depression.
It's a very common condition, which can brought on by
any sort of of very negative or tragic moment that you
experienced.
Seek counseling. Find a psychologist to see on a reg-
ular basis. He can talk to you on a one-to-one level,
and help you learn to cope with your feelings.
Do not--I repeat, DO NOT--confuse psychiatrists
with psychologists. It's a common misconception
that they're the same, but they definitely are not. A
psychiatrist can prescribe a medication for you--
and there a quite a few that were made to treat
Depression--but, unfortunately, their many side
effects can do you more harm than good.
If you have a lot of friends, then talk to them as
often as you can, too. But a psychologist can
help you to understand things that none of your
friends can.

In the words of my P.h.D., Jeffrey Friedman,
"Please be well."

You have plenty of time to change the world. Think of it this way, the way you feel right now is just going to be a part of who you ultimately become in the future. These feelings are normal at your age, BTW. Try keeping your journal...maybe write a book or some poems, expose yourself to as much knowledge as you can to help determine what it is you actually want to do. And remember always that you ARE young-no set course need be decided today. You have a computer, so what types of things interest you?

You could only have the right to be discontented with your life if you were the one that gave the life to yourself. Deep inside is part of you that you do not know. Still yourself and become aware of the Present Moment. It is all that is ever real. Past and future are a fruitless search that totally remove you from this ever-present NOW. Always in the present and in full awareness you can act spontaneously to the Plan.

Even i had the same problem a few years back, when i was in school.
But now Iam more focused and optimistic..
The only reason behind this problem is that you dont have a Goal or Aim in Life and you underestimate yourself. You have inferiority complex.
Just sit for a few minutes close your eyes and think about your main strengths and also your weaknesses and decide about your future(Goal).
or
try going to church and participate in the youth activities there and also you can join some voluntary organisation who work wit the mentally and physically challenged children.
I think doing these things will help you..

For me, it is a good thing. Through discontent then can you start to set up some goals to achieve. Only if the discontent will not overwhelem your normal thinking or daily life.
