sometimes, during conversations, people use to say,
"Holy cow!!"
What do they exactly mean? I mean is it an appreciation or a sort of degrading the others??

"Holy Cow" is used when people hear news or see an event that they believe to be a big deal. It's an expressive term started by Bart Simpson from the Simpsons cartoon. Who probably derived it from Robin of Batman and Robin the popular series from the 60s. i.e "Holy Monster makers Batman!" It's not meant to be degrading just a show of excitement. I suppose it can degrade others if said during someone else's embarrassing moment. Otherwise the term is harmless.

The Scooter was the best. I remember watching Yankees games when they played on Ch 11. He and Bill White and then later Bobby Murcer where always entertaining. I can even remember those "Money Store" commercials. I'm only 41yr old but it seems like yesterday. Can you imagine how Michael Kay would have been with Mr.Rizzuto working iwth him??? HOLY COW!!!! It was also very a classy tribute to the Legend. He will be missed.

I'm with ya Mojo. He'll be missed. I grew up listening to him on WPIX 11 out of NYC. His "Holy Cow" and "Huckleberry" expressions will live in my memory. Great Man.

It has a duel meaning. It can be both used to express surprise and astonishment. It is also used as a polite cuss word favored by ladies instead of using cuss words. Was in wide spread use before it became acceptable for ladies to use profanity.
