Really don't understand this. Full drivers licences don't have to be renewed until you are 70. Is that what happened. You then have to renew them every 3 years. So you now have to reapply and fill in a new form. Theoretically you should not drive till this is resolved . I am 76 and have had to renew my licence a couple of times. All went absolutely smoothly so can't see how you have run into this problem. Are you sure you have done everything properly?

You will have to reapply for a licence. 3 months is a bit long to wait. Next time, make sure that you keep following up your application processes.

The photocard licences are valid for 10 years, when they will need an updated photo. The licence itself is valid until you are 70 years old, meaning that you do not need to take a new test every 10 years.

Evidently, DMV has different rules in different states.... In NY State, there IS no law that states you MUST retest to renew your license when you are elderly (although I SURE hope they get that law on the books SOON)....if you let your license EXPIRE which is what I guess YOU did, and that expiration lasts more then a couple of MONTHS, then you DO have to reapply for a new license all over again and road test.. but each state may be different---why not go to your State DMV website---they ALL have them online and see what it says about your predicament THERE, or call DMV tomorrow and after a considerable time on HOLD, they may give you the answer right over the phone... but IF each states' DMV laws are different---someone from NY could not advise you well IF you live in another state....

Lesson: Send all important documents by registered and special delivery; that way you will know if it has been received. Peace of mind is worth a couple of pounds in anybody's money!

Check that they've got your correct address.

Any non-UK answerers take note - DVLA is a British organisation, and, as such, is not under any control from outside agencies, especially American ones. They employ anally-retentive half-wits who believe their own over-hyped publicity and expect others to do likewise!

Too bad. You have to reapply and retest. It sucks, but there's nothing you can do to change that.
