What is the difference between PC3200 RAM and PC5300 RAM for desktop computers?

PC3200 ram runs at 400 MHz and wont work in ddr2 motherboards. PC5300 runs at 667MHz and wont work with the older ddr motherboards. 5300 is ddr2.
