Well for circulation coins it was 1964 for the 90% silver coins. They did make 40% circulation 1/2 dollars from 1965-1970. Well the 1970 was available only in mint sets. The mint made it's last silver commemorative 1/2 dollar in 1954 but did do a 40% silver quarter, half and dollar in special sets for the bicentennial. and there were none made until in 1982 they came out with the silver George Washington 1/2. Then in 1983 they came out with a real silver olympic dollar. Then in 1986 the started its moderen run of commemoratives and if you want silver that is a way to get it. They also produced silver proof sets at times and have done so for all the state quarters. Silver U.S. coins are there at the mint but you need to pay extra for them these days.

The US Mint stopped producing coins that were made from 90% silver after 1964. Between 1965 and 1969, only the Kennedy Half Dollar was coined using silver, but only 40% of the coin's weight was silver.

Since then, there has been no silver in US coins meant for circulation. There are still special mint sets and proof sets created by the mint for collectors that are produced nearly every year which include coins with some silver content.

In addition to these, there are many collectable medals and commemorative coins as well as the Silver American Eagle which are produced by the US Mint, but are not considered to be coins, even though they do have a denomination imprinted on them.

These are usually sold at a premium over the price of the silver contained in them, rather than their face value.

The US Mint site linked below is probably the best place to go for this type of information.
