The winning times in the 500 meter skating world championship for men are approximated by m = 46 - 0.1y and for women by w = 57- 0.2y, where y is the time in years since 1900 (so y = 5 is 1905) and m and w are the times in seconds. Using these approximations in what years will men and women's times be equal?

You need m = w

46 - 0.1y = 57 - 0.2y

0.2 y - 0.1 y = 57 - 46

0.1 y = 11

y = 110

So, 2010 should see the record equal if the relations still hold good.
