No. 1957 was when the "nuovo cinquecento", or second Fiat 500 was introduced. However, that was the car that put Italy on wheels, and looked cute, and was world famous. It is also the car that the new 500's styling was based upon.

The first 500, also known as the Topolino (or little mouse - the Italians use the same term for a certain famous Disney character), was introduced in 1937. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Topolino.

My pals were jealous when they discovered that I had tae pull a wee lever tae get it started, even better, if it didnae kick intae action, ye shoved a broomstick up it's wee botty tae gie it a jump!!! My dad hand painted it in Burgundy after he put about two tonnes of filler in it!!
