I work about 50 hours a week during the week, and then yesterday I had to help my sister move. I should be doing stuff around MY house, but I just don't fricking feel like it. Is that horrible of me? Or do I deserve one day of peace?

It's not "bad," just a case of procrastination.

But considering what you went through yesterday, you deserve to relax today. Moving is always a major chore and wears one out. [One of the best things anyone can do is put aside about $10-20 per month into a moving fund -- when the time comes to move, you'll generally have several hundred dollars saved up and can just hire real movers to do the job. All you have to do is pack and unpack!]

As for your chores, I'm also very busy like you throughout the week -- 40-60 hours. The key for me is to just do a little bit each night. After eating, I wash the plate and utensils immediately. I keep the shower and sink dry in the bathroom after use. On Friday mornings I dust everything with a feather duster before going to work; that evening the dust will have settled to the floor, so I vacuum then. And since I don't have a washer/dryer where I live [grrrrrrr], I get up early on Saturday and haul my laundry to a laundromat -- I'm done by 10:00 or so. I then run whatever errands I have, such as banking and grocery shoppng, and I'm home by 1:00 at the latest. Then the rest of the weekend is mine [I don't have children, and my partner is out on the road a lot].

As for the files, they're just like any organization duties -- do a little bit at a time. I tend to be a perfectionist, so I'm always have to battle the desire to just spend 900 hours and get everything done at once. :-) Seriously, just do about ten minutes per night, and in just a few days you'll be done. This applied to any sort of work where you have to go through a lot of stuff. I'm finishing up a major purge of old books, magazines, and papers, and I did just about ten minutes per night. It's taken me about a month, but it was a breeze to do.

Hope this helps. Oh, and don't ever beat yourself up for procrastinating -- it's completely understandable, especially when you start looking around and feel overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done. So don't try to accomplish everything in one hour, but nonetheless do SOMETHING to move forward. :-)

You deserve a day of peace. I'm sitting here thinking the same thing about myself. I worked yesterday and today I just want to relax. The laundry & the cleaning will have to wait.

You deserve a day of peace definitely. Just do the laundry so you'll have stuff to wear during the week.

Honey if anyone needs a day of rest, it sounds like you. I say turn down the a/c, put on your favorite P.J's, grab a blanket and go watch a good movie. Who knows you may even catch a nap, sound like you could use one. All that other stuff will be there next week. Put your feet up you deserve it.

You did a good deed, but moving is exhausting. Try to get the laundry done and pay any bills you absolutely have to but let the rest go. You got your work out yesterday!

NO. Just not getting it done!
Maybe you'd feel better if you got a LITTLE bit of it done.
Like, just wash the dishes or at least throw on a load of towels. You DO deserve a day off here and there. I just feel better myself if I have at least SOMETHING done.

You may be asking the wrong folks this question... we're ALL sitting here ignoring those more mundane tasks in order to communicate on this, the higher level of the ridiculous.

You're not the only one. I have clothes that need to be folded and I need to clean the bathroom. I don't feel like it either. I guess it's one of those lazy sundays.

Dude, that's totally me too! I'm such a procrastinator. I should be going through mail and cleaning my house but I'm here on Y!As. We'll be bad together. Want to start a club? Where should headquarters be? I wonder who else will want to join...
