im not looking for them old ones i mean the new ones. I prefer the ones that take place in LA or Brooklyn

A Bronx Tale is great. Just an all around great movie. Also, Mobsters which is the tale of the rise of Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky. Also, Once Upon A Time in America (but it's pretty long, like 4 hours, and epic in proportion.)
Of course, The Godfather is the best, the barometer by which all others are measured. But you may consider it "old."
Also, it depends what you're looking for. Casino is also really good and features a horrifically violent scene with Joe Pesci.

A relativekly new one that took placce a while back, set in NY, would have to be Gangs of New York. Great movie.
