Could anyone give me a good reason to join the freemasons. And the meaing (if any) for the "G" in the middle of the symbol. Also, do you have to know someone to join (sponser) you. and are there any annual dues or just a one shot deal. Which would be better of the "rites" route to go. I.E. scottish etc. And what is the meaning of the "BLUE" lodge or is there more than one color lodge.

The decision to join Freemasonry is a personal one, you should enter of your own free will, not for anything else or any other reason.

The 'G' represents the creator of all things, and Freemasons see it as different things, God, Geomotry, Geomatrician. Certain jurisdiction teach slight different meanings to the letter 'G', none are 100% correct and none are 100% wrong, you discover the meaning to you (which you will understand more if you join).

You do not need to know another Freemason to join (I didn't) but you have to ask to join. Yes you do need to be "sponsored" into the lodge, but prior to this you will meet some of the members and one of them will sponsor you if you seem a good candidate.

You will pay for your degrees, and then there will be a yearly subscription to remain a member. Amounts differ from lodge to lodge regarding degree costs, and subscription costs are down to Grand Lodge, again which will differ from one to the next.

Do not concern yourself with side orders and appendant bodies at this time. Once you have completed your degrees you will normally find yourself drawn to a certain aspect of the Freemasonry, historic, ritual, symbol etc which will help with that decision. Also you do not have to do one or the other, as long as you meet the criteria to join you can do as many of the side orders as your want.

Blue lodge is a term given to the lodges that confer the craft degrees, Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, Master Mason and is predominantly an American term.

If you enjoy dressing up, meeting regularly with cultured men who perform rituals which need studying for and which require some acting, and if you are interested in learning about morality, you might like it. You don't necessarily need to know a mason to join, and any rite or lodge is a good one to be a member of. There are annual dues, which vary depending on the lodge. The Blue Lodge is a basic lodge. There are other colours, to which access is available upon invitation to full members of blue lodges.

My great-grandfather was a Freemason. He never told my mom ANYTHING about it, because it was top secret. A good reason to join: Make friends?

No, it sounds to much like the muslim religion. We are at war with this group and should not support any of their evilness.
God Bless America!!
