I know that PNCBank has a check scanner at some ATM. It is neat. You can see the scan of your check deposit on the screen and doubble check the amount you entered.

Of course you can. You can also deposit cash, bills only though. Insert the check into an envelope that is provided at the machine and insert it in the ATM when directed by the machine to do so. Each envelope is printed with information when it is accepted into the machine. This helps with matching your check to your deposit. These envelopes are opened and verified by two bank employees. Depending on whether it is a personal or business check, a hold may be placed on it. Keep in mind that funds depositted through the ATM are often not 'available' for use until the envelopes are removed and verified in the morning.

Yes you can deposit a check in an ATM.

Check that your account allows ATM deposits without a service fee. Banks love service charges and don't advertise them when you open your account.

And, like the other person wrote, keep the ATM receipt. That was the only proof of an ATM deposit that didn't get recorded properly on the bank's end for me one time.

You can, but I don't recommend it. The ATM receipt IS NOT proof that you deposited anything. It shows what YOU told the ATM you deposited. It does NOT prove you actually placed anything in the deposit envelope. If the deposit goes missing, your account WILL be charged and your receipt won't be worth the paper it is printed on.

Yes. That's what the deposit envelopes near the ATM are for.

Put it in the envelopes provided. Be sure your name and account number are on the envelope. Be sure the check is endorsed. It probably won't get posted until a couple of hours into the next business day.
