It depends on the person. Usually, a lot. That's why, when you make an important decision, you've got to think about your reasons for choosing as you do. If you allow your environment and circumstances to play too big a role in your decision-making process, you will eventually land yourself in trouble.

I think the environment has a lot of influence like for example a abused kid growing up might want to succed in life and change the way they're living. I know that when my environment is clean or organized it's easier for me to make decisions and be organized.

I would argue that they may play a role, but that these types of theories (which are many) move us away from feeling empowered in our life. I have the options to choose X, Y or Z. I can attribute that choice to my environment, my genes, or human nature. However, the decision making process comes from my own thinking.

Trying to understand our own behaviour or the behaviour of others is often difficult. Anything that I have done, I did for a variety of reasons. Environment had little to do with it.

Why even ask such a question. You must know there's no definite answer to this kind of question. You know you'll only get a bunch of half-baked philosophers out there spouting off with the standard unsubstantiated crap that Cliff Claven spouts.
