I love classical music... always have, always will. Tchaikovsky is one of my favs. Verdi is no slouch either. Unfortunately, I cannot sit through an opera. No matter how hard I try, or how many music appreciation classes I take, I will never be able to enjoy the sound of the instruments as long as someone is singing. Sorry.

People still today appreciate Classical music, just look at all the poeple in your voice studio. Or the people who still go to the symphony, and operas today. Though you have to understand that not everyone is going to like the same styles of music you do and thats prefectly fine. There is no right or wrong with music. It only comes down to people's tastes, and what moves them. I'd stay away from the people who mock or laugh at you. They aren't interested in hearing something new, which in the end they might appreciate.

I completely agree with you. I love hearing Opera. Phantom of the Opera is one of my favorite movies. And my iPod is filled with music made by composers such as, John williams, Hans Zimmer, and Harry-Gregson Williams. I love orchestra music. It is so beautiful. I love the Chairman's Waltz from Memoirs of a Geisha sountrack. Music isn't just Beyonce and Shakira who's voices are good but definitely not the most beautiful or best. If people want real music they should try appreciating classical. I love hearing the classical music they have on itunes.

These people you have described are only part of a huge population that has others flocking to the opera and spending big bucks on season tickets and excitedly awaiting every season's opening.
There also continues to be a very great number of classical music buffs and they come from various walks of life and are of varying ages. Classical music is here to stay as it is the backbone of present-day music whether we realize it or not.

Miss Stella,
I'm proud of you. Let them say what they like. It isn't easy to be an opera singer. The power of voice. No electronic helping. It's totally your own voice. That's the talent of Classic. That's Classic. Classic music will stand long forever.

Sweetie, I like classical and semi classical..listen to it a lot...but, jazz most of the time because my hubby likes that. I think the world needs to slow down to really appreciate the classical..you can't appreciate it while having a conversation or playing cards...you really need to listen and people just don't do that very much.
Hang in there...classical will never go out of style..Beyonce and Shakira will.. their kind of singing is short lived...

I don't think it'll ever happen, unfortunately. I'm a big fan of classical music myself, but my favorites are choral styles - standard choral pieces, renaissance, madrigal, barbershop - you name it, if it's not considered modern or contemporary and a choir can sing it, I like it. But with the way music is going, I don't think any of the styles of music you and I like are going to become popular again. Even showtunes, which used to have a strong following, are off the mainstream almost completely. The only resurgence I've seen of that was the recent Gwen Stefani hit which had a portion of "The Lonely Goatherder" from The Sound of Music in it.
Sing on, my friend, whatever music lifts your spirits and makes your heart soar.

It depends on you definition of "People".
You see, it's quite natural for teenagers NOT to appreciate it BUT the more adults you ask that question (and that DEFINITELY means travelling outside your own neighbourhood), you may realise that there is still a decent number of people still appreciating calssical music.
Mind you, it's almost like thinking in the vein of "If there are so many people disliking a certain singer, how come he/she reached number 1 in the charts?". You see, when it comes to THAT point, you were probably asking the wrong people.

Making waves in the musical world is not only about having a 'stronger voice'. It's to do with promotion, image, having a good agent. Music that have survived through the ages, were not necessarily the best, but they had strong sponsors.....get it.

I dont' think it's that people no longer appreciate it, I think it is more of a lack of education. Classical music is still appreciated by many people, but they are starting to become few and far between. I think it is great that you interested in and sing classical music. I mean how awesome is it that hundreds of years after something was written it is still being performed. Keep up your studies in music, and go and educate other's in classical music, and how all music essentially came as some sort of off shoot from that, or from one of it's off shoots.
