I wouldn't flush it if I were you. It could get stuck in the drain and cause a clog and smelly pipes.... but other than that, it's insensitive to the memory of your former pet to just carelessly toss it in the toilet like it was poop. (And I'm just horrified at the thought of giving it to the cat or putting it in the garbage disposal! :( Really!!! My cat wouldn't eat it anyway. LOL)
Children are more likely to have closure about the death if you have a little burial for it. They need to learn that everything lives and dies, and having a burial for their pet goldfish is a good way to introduce this idea to them.
If it was your pet goldfish, I would hope that you would at least give it some kind of a dignified goodbye before you chuck it in the garbage.

I would say no, because if your fish died of a disease you could then spread that desease to any fish that live in the waters where all our recycled toilet water goes.
Nothing wrong with digging a fish a little grave in your garden, if you have one. Other pets get burried so why not fish?
If you don't have a garden wrap it up nice and tight in a plastic bag and throw it out with your rubbish.
Or, you could always put it out to feed the birds / local cats. Of course, not advisable if the fish died from something that could harm birds or cats too ^_^

Yes, what else would you do with them? This really is a silly question. Just think of all the things that go down your drain. Is a goldfish really going to hurt it? Don't think so. If your not comfortable with that - trash it.

As long as the fish does not exceed the size of something you would normally flush it is fine. You can also throw them away or bury them.
