I have a HD 1200 Sporty that came with many aftermarket parts. I am changing plugs at least weekly due to fouling out. I think the jets need to be smaller but I want to learn to do this myself! I would like step by step instructions on how to change the jets. This is my first bike and I LOVE it although the whole fouling out thing is getting quite frustrating! I really want to learn how to wrench on the bike without depending on a mechanic or a man! (Sorry not trying to bash you guys) Thanks!!!

Before you start changing jets there are a couple things you can do on the outside.

1) make sure your choke is in the right position( my old lady is notorious for riding off with the choke in the cold position)

2) Make sure the air filter is clean, a clogged filter will create a false rich condition.

3) there are fuel/air ratio adjustment screws on the carb that if misadjusted, can cause a rich condition.

4) be sure a pilot jet is not clogged as this can also cause a rich condition.

Be aware that carbs are sensitive ,screw adjustments are done 1/8th of a turn at a time, and that it is much easier to screw up carb adjustments and jetting than it is to improve them.

Actually changing jets is easy, **Knowing what to change them to is a matter of experience***

To change a jet ,simply remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the float bowl, remove the bowl and using a screwdriver remove the jet (s) , But Now What Are You Going To Put In There.? Do You Know How To Make The Subtle Screw Adjustments That Are Usually Needed With Each Jet Change?
Good luck, but I'd suggest a shop and the $100.00 for a dyno and rejet for you.

Purchase a shop manual to learn "how to change" your jets.

Contact me for a copy of a carb trouble shooting guide.
It will tell you "what to change" for optimal running and performance.
Include your e-mail address so I can forward it.
Can't forward stuff through Answers.
