If nobody buys a ticket to a movie do they still show it?

I am sure that they do. I recently went to the theater on a weekday because I wanted to see the movie and I was avoiding someone. Anyway, there were three of us sitting in the theater and they showed it. I don't think anyone checked to see who was in the theater (it was a multi-plex) before starting the movie.

Yes it is my understanding that it is in the contract to show it. Of course what do I really know!?
