It would be heavenly. That way, you could live in the part of the country that fit your political leanings. I predict if that happened that the south would have the lowest taxes, lowest crime rate, highest standard of living, and the libs would be pounding on the door to get in after a year or two. But, like the song says, "keep a knockin' but you can't come in.!"{

It was not a "civil war." If it were a civil war, the South would have been trying to take over Washington. The South only wanted to be left alone.

Not a bad idea. The country should probably be physically divided so that the crazy liberals can have their utopia, and they'll probably wind up self-destructing.

They Did when the Democrat Liberals and the Supreme Court, passed the Equal Rights Amendment, Affirmative Action, EEOC, Equal rights to Public Accommodations, The Voting Rights Act,White Schools and Universities were forcibly desegregated by Armed Federal troops. The South was so upset that they Left the Solid Democratic South and joined the Republican party, over one issue Equal Rights (legal racism) Now they form the core of the neocon movement.

Been there, tried that. Didn't work. Last time I checked, you CAN live in the part of the country that fits your political leanings. By the way, none of your predictions will ever happen if the South can't get its education system out of the toilet. I live in Georgia on the border of Alabama, and can see what the lottery money has done for our schools, and yet Alabama won't institute one because it goes against their Baptist values. So why can't the Baptists not play it and let all the heathens pay for education by playing the lottery? Yet, they did decide to let people start being able to buy alcohol on Sunday. I bet there are parts of the country that would love to be rid of us as much as you'd like to be rid of them!

They tried that. It was called the US Civil War.

The Supreme Court ruled that states cannot unilaterally secede without permission of Congress.

But that's the solution. Whichever party is in power, they should allow the country to split.... that way, people who want conservative control over every aspect of their personal lives can get it. And people who want govt-sponsored charity for everyone can get that.

And the rest of us can take the West Coast, and create a libertarian haven and leave both ends of the spectrum.

It could, but there isn't much support for that at the moment. With the exception of eliminating people undermining America's foreign policy, you could achieve the same results by just moving power from the federal government to the state governments. So that each state could make its own laws about taxes, crime, and other things even while they're part of the same country. But there isn't much support for that at the moment either. Which is too bad.

Problem is it would be the poverty. I am southern. Born and raised in Conway, Arkansas. Presently live closer to Wooster. Conway was lower-middle class, red neck heaven, 97% white. Wooster is the REAL south. 72% black and 28% poor white redneck. I consider this a horrible way to live. I've been to "liberal" New York. What amazing prosperity! I can only dream of relocating there. Or having any sort of book store less than 30 miles away... Not many readers here.

They tried that already, that's why we had the civil war.

Instead of trying to run away, why don't you try to learn how you can get along with people who have view points that are different then yours.

If everyone in the world did this, we would all live better.

We as humans have so much in common, maybe it's time to focus on that for a while.

No need for a formal secession. That was tried once already and didn't work out too well. People are already "seceding" with their feet. The south and southwest are booming... attracting both capital and talented people, while the rust belt is.. well, rusting.

They did that once. It was called the Confederate States of America. It sparked a little thing we like to call the American Civil War.

Take a history class. The South started the war by ATTACKING Fort Sumpter. People who want to be left alone don't attack, and break laws. The war was over 150 years ago. Get over it you redneck.
