You are asking for examples of where medical research has not yet solved every problem it has explored, and you want to use that as an example of why we should stop medical research?

If you need an argument against, your strongest is the religious opposition to the practice. I'm sure many other people have put that one forth already.

You can also take the tack that until more stem cell lines become available, there is not a lot more that can be learned from the existing lines -- but that could be turned around as reason to release new lines for further research.

Other than that, you would have to try and argue that that particular area of medical research might be statistically less productive than others for the amount of money spent -- but statistics have never been the determinative factor in when to stop pursuing a line of research, so it's not a strong argument.

You were assigned to the losing side in that debate. Trying to find scientific evidence against stem cell research is like trying to find scientific evidence against sterilizing equipment before surgery: There may be some obscure evidence against it but there's a mountain of evidence supporting it.

Opposing stem cell research based on the lack of spectacular results so far is a weak argument. We simply don't know what will be or can be developed in this field in the future. Appealing to superstition and prejudice seem to be the most popular defenses of that side at the moment.

We are funding Stem Cell research right now and the funded stem cells are giving us results. The only stem cell research we do not fund (but is NOT illegal) is Embryonic and to date it has been quite a disappointment to the scientific community in that it has produced nothing.

No. Cause it's been proven over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over AGAIN that stem cells can be used to cure diseases.... The religious right needs to get off their soap boxes and learn to read the documentation
