Generally, quality keys are made out of brass, because it won't rust. Cheap keys are made out of steel. Some keys are plated with a silver-colored metal, but the more they are used, the more this plating wears away to reveal the brass underneath.

it can be of any metal.

in olden times it wz usually of iron and copper.and for the treasure keys were of gold cz of lusture and not rusting or anything like it.

and now,it is of brass,steel,copper and silver plated on different alloys.
