The founadtion of this concept is based on the inability of man to understand the true nature of God. Since he cannot, he must rationalize his quest to do within what he can understand and manipulate, the maniuplation of Gods creation through his excercise of free will, in this case his ability to to attempt approach God through architecture. Architecture, in this construct allows man to surround himself on a grand scale with his his earthly vision of God and his majesty, thus enabling him to believe such grand structures bring him closer to God. A machination of the belief that praise brings one closer to God. Some believe that praise while useful is a rationalization of mans helplessness before his plight, by putting faith in Gods love. In truth some believe that becoming closer to God, through understanding his nature and his plan for man can only come through mediation and study, not worship alone and thus not archtitecture alone.

Note: I have used the used the word "man" in the concept of mankind and "he" in the concept of God as rhetorical descriptors, since we cannot know his true phyiscal nature.
