I am trying to inventory a coin collection, is there any good software that I can use?

There are some out there but it also depends on what kind of coins they are. For U.S. coins you can go by the list the person above me gave. For world coins you are limited. I found the best one for me for U.S. and world coins is Exact Change but it is $100. remember there are some that also have photo's to help in grading. If a coin dealer is near you pick up a copy of Coin World or Numismatic News they are weekly coin papers and they have ads for such programs and tell you a little about them.

There are many programs that can help you, though it may be a good idea to have a coin shop look them over first to see if it would be worth much time to go through them. A rather large percentage of coins collected by the average person have little or no value.

When looking for computer programs to value your coin collection, you will want to look at how often the database is updated since coin values can fluctuate wildly over a short period of time. Anything over a year old is practically useless. Over 90 days old is still questionable.

One of the better software packages is called the Coin Collector's Assistant. Some versions of the program can help with grading and show average values for a particular coin and grade.
