If there were no wind then what purpose would the feather have since it never left its original perch? Finding a place to land is often a life long adventure. To those of us who believe Life is an adventure then we are forever in the WIND, not necessarily looking to land. As we pass by the flowers we find exhilaration in their beauty and notice that their fruits provide the staple for other life to continue. When those of us in the Life of adventure finally land, we do so knowing that the wind has carried us far and wide. As we land, we thrive on our adventure, including all of the flowers we encountered along the journey.
When you are ready, find a place to land knowing that your life has a propose.

If a feather in the wind had no purpose, the wind wouldn't have bothered picking it up.

When a feather finds a place to land = the journey had been long, but the destination reached.

Both have a purpose. A feather is like a human being. We all wonder to find some purpose in life. Some are guided along the way and find it in and land quickly. Some get lost, but land eventually. Some fly with the wind their entire lives.

A flower is there to bring beauty and bear fruits.

If it wasn't beautiful, it wouldn't be so noticed.

If it didn't bear fruits, it would lose it uselessness.

that's a wonderful question....

people say that everything happens for a purpose...sometimes i agree but in my personal opinion...it is not necessary that everything should have a purpose.
The feather in the wind is one of them. its just a silly idea but maybe the feather and the wind are flirting with each other...maybe the feather just wants to be taken away to another place where it could be found by a thoughtful person who picks it up and keeps it within the pages of his/her book...
same as flowers....some flowers bring beauty but bear poisonous fruits, some bring no beauty but bear tasty and juicy fruits, some do both....if there is a purpose behind all this, then its the same as ours....to live the way we want to and in the best of our abilities....maybe the flowers do the same... maybe the feathers in the wind do the same....

:)

A feather in the wind has an initial purpose of flight. It's settling place is the finality of the overall purpose from whence it began.

A flower's purpose can be both beauty to the beholder and to bear fruit--gifts of flowers often bring positive and loving responses, as well as gifts of fruit from fruit-bearing trees.

The feather in the wind has a purpose before it lands as does the flower in the garden before it bears fruit.

It's amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness.
You recognize the beauty of the feather and seek something more. The beauty you recognize is not connected with the flower in any way.
Sure it has a purpose - the feather is subject to chaos. The flower? Isn't that why are we all here? What does it all mean?
What does creation mean? That's an irrational question, you can have creation without purpose or reason. We create purpose or we don't. The flower does likewise. We do, it does it, therefore it, and us are still here.
What you see outside of that is solely a condition in your head.
Unless you prefer the irrational belief in God, which I do actually.
For me God is the magic, the spark of life, including my own.

You've asked two questions, and I shall begin with your first one.

The following "picture" was inspired some years back by a gift from a friend - a ceramic plate depicting a Navajo woman, arms raised, amidst swirling feathers. I do believe it might offer a thought regarding your question (part 1):

The Gift

Toward the sun the woman stood, face set to the sky.
She lifted her weary arms and asked the wind, "Why?"
She thought about her life - had she lost her way?
The breeze kissed her cheek as she breathed a new day.

We breathe, we live, we laugh, we love, we think, we mourn, we cry.
The woman gazed with questioning eyes and asked again, "Why?"
And then she waited as she continued to look above
When all at once she saw a miracle, a symbol of love.

Where they fell from, she did not know; but down they came;
In countless hundreds, they fluttered in endless game.
The tiny feathers, soft and white, floated all about her –
She tried to grasp at them while in their ghostly swirl.

They are a gift, a sign, she thought with happy heart,
Each one a thing of beauty, a stunning piece of art.
As they tumbled and played about in carefree dance
The woman laughed aloud - they had not come by chance.

We are all feathers in the breeze, a gift from heaven above
Destined to an endless dance in search of life and love.
And now she gazed with much serenity and peace
For as long as there is wind, this dance of life shall never cease.

Where the feathers may land is important secondarily; that the feathers exist is the essence of their purpose.

Part 2 of your question: What is a flower's purpose?

Biologically and scientifically, a flower is the female Ying complement to the Yan of a plant's "life" - it carries the potential for a seed, awaiting fertilization, with the hope for perpetuation of a plant's life (immortality?). In it's floral charm, a flower is evidence that indeed, the Fruits of Life are Beautiful.

For me the feather in the wind has more purpose, as it is ever flowing, ever evolving, ever beautifying the area where the breeze slows and it is allowed to feel the moment of peace, but never long enough to stagnate. Once it hits the ground..it is stagnant and although one may pick it up in thought of the beauty it once had...it will never be free again, and ever stagnant. But there must be those that would collect upon the ground that the others may be free to fly within the breeze. It is the nature of life.
I believe the flower's purpose is to bring beauty to the senses and without bearing fruits it would not be capable of doing so.
Blessings and love,
BESS

A feather, will fly where the Wind guides it to do, but I also think that sometimes it is intended, to fly to persons who have Lost a love one, and I think that the Lord is telling them that he understands and wants them to have some consolation, and that he/she is in a better place. A flower's real purpose is to smell the delicate fragrance they have, and to delight us with their appearance. Some Flowers bloom from fruit trees symbolizing that the Tree will have fruit to enjoy, so I think that the flower's real purpose is for both beauty and fruits.

The feather has no purpose but the wind.... it has a purpose dealing with the frail feather. This life giving wind indicates to the seer its ( wind`s) strength at that moment. Gentle, soft, strong or ferocious, gusty ... Based on this the man takes his decision to handle the wind.

In that sense the simple feather may have this purpose of communicating something to the observer.

The flower in its beauty and simplicity tries to convey the true meaning of life itself to the man. That " I am born of a tiny seed and I have the strength to defy gravity and grow as a plant and as I mature I flower indicating that I am in my prime and thereafter I will be on the decline and wither away. I seek the help of the insects and the birds to help me propogate befor I die."

Man never reads this simple story and keeps running away from his death.
