As an amateur genealogist, I have learned of the existence of many Native American tribes I had never heard of in history classes. My mother's ancestors came to Mississippi from Alabama from South Carolina, from North Carolina, from Virginia, from Maryland. I have one ancestor whom I cannot find anything about, and I am beginning to believe she was Native American, and she could have been a Lumbee. On my father's side, I have 2 Shawnee, and a Cherokee. On my husband's side, at least 1 Mikmaq (Nova Scotia). We are all truly Americans!

yes know of this tribe and some of the Lumbee Tribe are said to be descendants of the Lost Colony of Roanoke.

yes in another church i attended i met a family who are Lumbees and thats were theyre from...He worked them to death on a huge farm and alot of his kids wanted to move away as fast as possible...his wife was sweet

Yes, I heard a news report on them not long ago, and their struggle to get the US govt to recognize their existence.
Why on earth does the govt think it has a right to tell people what their ethnic group is or is not???
