you can buy some over the Internet or in large stores like Wall-mart.
but you can also make some with strong smell. cats hate the smell of citrus fruits. so you can make some lemon, orange, lime,or grapefruit juice and mix with water and spray it around. some people have also had luck using pepper.

Scattering moth balls around your garden might help.....flower garden. Wouldn't suggest it for a vegetable garden. If you were starting a new garden I'd suggest putting down chicken wire or other similar small celled wire mesh and then cut holes for the plants. The cats won't be able to scratch the wire and will be less interested is using your big litter box.

There's also a device that fits on the end of your hose that triggers a water squirt at the animal......problem is a cat may not be large enough to trigger the device.

As another poster suggested, crushed red pepper or cayenne pepper (powdered red pepper) repels cats. It does not harm them; they receive a snootful of "hot!" and learn to go elsewhere.

I have 9 cats. I use cayenne pepper to keep them out of my own flowerbeds. If there are pigeons to be caught, cats will tolerate mothballs, squirts of water, citrus, or most other repellents to get to the pigeons. A noseful of hot pepper, however, is another matter entirely.

Cayenne pepper does not harm animals or plants, even if it washes into the soil. Birds cannot taste it.

I have found that by sprinkling crushed red pepper around my beds, the cats won't touch it! They sniff that spice and it chases them rite away. It's a cheap and easy way to get them gone (you can buy the cheap spices from the dolar store) I spread it heavy around the outside of the garden beds.

I've used crushed red pepper and black pepper from the dollar tree store and it works great, and I was really upset and desperate to get them out of my yard. It didn't seem to bother my dog.
