I totally agree with you. The developed countries are wasting all their money and resources searching for life on other planets and at the same time neglecting the life that already exists on our world. What's the point of travelling in space? Why waste billions of dollars on shuttle missions? Just to show-off. Not to mention the amount of pollution such missions cause. In Africa people are dying of hunger, of diseases which can be easily cured but rich nations are too full of themselves to help the real needy ones.

Man does not live by bread alone. Put another way, grownups need alternative conceptual pathways to balance their primary tasks, else they go mad. So, also, go societies.

There is a need for search and discovery. These efforts are all a matter of civic pride and of perceived progress, and sociology clearly demonstrates an imperitive in healthy societies to pursue such ends, be it a more beautiful skyline or a joining in with the rest of the globe to get a piece of Mars.

Consider that you pretend the authority to tell other entire cultures how they should think of themselves and their dreams. How can you imagine you have the right to judge them?
How?
How?
How?

NASA got $17 billion in the FY2008 US Federal Budget, compared to around $700 billion going on medical care and research, and several hundred billion going to social welfare, so don't you presume to tell us that vast amounts of money are being wasted. If you wish to get on that high horse can we assume that you won't be spending money on DVDs, trips to the cinema and frivolous things like home decoration and that you'll be spending all your spare cash on the needy?

The world is not divided into 'either/or' situations. 'Either we help the poor or we do space research.' We can do both, and we absolutely should do both.

Mercy, where do YOU get your info from??? The amount of money spent on space research is a drop in the bucket compared to what is spent helping the poor, for EVERY country.

By the way, money spent on research not only has given you the benefits of things like computers and cell phones, but it also creates jobs - and creating jobs is exactly how you help the poor.

That accelerates our life and gives us answers for many questions. When people have children they can not feed is it the worlds responsibility to feed them. One of the worlds major problems is over population . So if we save all the ignorant children it will accelerate the over population.
