What is the difference between a tres and a guitar ?

i have heard that its much smaller than a guitar, am I right? if not what are some other differences ? :)

Please explain what a "tres" is. I own a bunch of guitars, but I've never heard of a "tres". I've heard of "treble" guitars - is that what you mean? Those have 4-strings and are tuned differently.

never heard of a "tres" (3???) but I have heard of a "Quatro"(4) its a small guitar tuned like a mandolin low to high, G D A E a guitar is tuned E A D G B E the scale isn't too much smaller than an acoustic guitar, more like a small beginners guitar
