My husband put fuel injector cleaner in the oil reservour by mistake, he drained it, and put new oil in it. I'm afraid that could damage in some way the engine. Is it anything we should do to take it all out of the engine?

As long as he drained it and replaced the oil, it should be fine.

All the oil does is keep the parts lubricated, so once he drained and replaced it...the crisis was averted.

Nothing really, it might slow a car down depending on how much is in the tank, but its unlikely. There's a screen thing (think of it as a really small strainer) at the end of a fuel pump that stops most larger items from getting sucked into the fuel system and secondly, there's a fuel filter that, in theory, cleans out what the little screen didn't. It's more annoying than anything else because eventually, you should drop the gas tank and dump it out, but it won't destory an engine.

Just consider this: Just past this month I flush my engine oil. I did this by draining the oil and then replacing it with 1 qt of new oil with 3 qt of kerosene. YES KEROSENE.

After idling it for 15 minutes (no revving the egine) I dump it out and then just replace it with new oil. I did this twice in a row.

After 150 miles, the oil still looks new (clear vanilla color). My other car (that I didn't flush) the NEW oil look dark coffee after 10 miles. OK I did flush it - but using new motor oil for just 20 miles. Yes I think I'm crazy when it comes to trying to keep the engine oil system clean.

So putting in little bit of fuel injector cleaner into the engine (then draining it out) will not damage the engine. Just make sure you have fresh oil and filter.

You can buy Engine flush at Advanced Auto Parts store or any other auto store. After putting the fuel injector cleaner in the oil, did he run the engine? If not, then just changing the oil should be sufficient.

This is slightly funny..........ok its really funny but he didnt hurt a thing. even if he started the engine there isnt enough cleaner to do any damage but you did the right thing by changing the oil. just by running the engine normally any residual cleaner will be removed from the engine through the normal breathing process. if you actually new what was in your oil from normal engine operation you would realize that the cleaner is actually cleaner than the oil.......LOL

Cleaned the oil system don't worry. In the future give your husband his glasses or read the bottles your self. Most injector cleaners are mild cleaners and ammonia in diesel oil should not hurt anything and you got the oil changed good for you...

thins out the oil and does nothing for the injectors. You need to have your oil changed because it loses viscosity.

No need to flush anything out. Just change the oil and filter and it'll be fine.

It will be fine as long as he drained the oil and changed the filter. Most of it will evaporate anyway.
