The act came about as a result of the six imams "testing" the waters when they were acting strangely on that now-famous flight. The Homeland Security wants people to report anything strange, but now those same average (John Doe) citizens can be sued for reporting. Right now the imams have a lawsuit against these citizens. The terrorists are laughing their butts off at us!!!

Imams testing the waters?

Can you prove that?

John Doe Protection Act is not necessary.

If people are just being Islamophobic or racist and are trying to get Muslims and/or Arabs who aren't doing anything wrong detained or taken off of airplanes, then they should be sanctioned for it.

No, the average citizen cannot be sued for reporting if they are acting in good faith, or based on reasonable suspicion. The existing laws already protect them from such lawsuits.

What the John Doe Act would do is grant ABSOLUTE immunity to any civil suit, even for people who were acting illegally, or acting in bad faith with the intent or harass. Why would you want to protect people who are breaking the law?

And yes, the terrorists are laughing at us right now. Because we're fighting with each other over whether people should be allowed to break the law, and letting people who break the law get away with it. Which means we've already betrayed our own constitutional principles and are nothing more than hypocrites.

It's amazing that the same people who seem to be violently opposed to amnesty for illegal immigrants also want to grant amnesty for those who slander minorities. Absolute immunity to civil liability is always a bad thing, especially when the current laws already protect anyone acting in good faith.

It would seem to me, that the radical left behind Palose, and Reed, would like nothing more, then to cause a social, and economical collapse of our great country. The latest attempt, came in the form of blocking the John Doe act. It, like the amnesty bill, was done behind closed doors.
The liberal left, is so beholden to the special interest groups, that if they do nothing to appease them, there campaign funds will dry up. And with that, they are sure to lose a large chunk of there seats in the House, and the Senate, effectively loosing control of things for years to come. So, they chip a way at the fringes of our basic freedoms, and before we now it , Moveon.org and George Sorros will be freely running the country. Then where will we be?

Its stupid.
Americans are so isolated they are not used to foreigners and how they behave, they report everything, as you just proved.
They are scared of their own shadow at the moment, understandable due to their gullibility in the matters of "security"

but, the airlines should be trained not to overreact

Because Democrats hate America and want to make it easy for terrorists to attack us by allowing them to sue patriotic Americans who see them acting suspiciously and wish to report it.

Because your civil liberty's trump this neo con inspired piece of legislation.
I am sick of a government forcing plutocratic fascism and ignoring my constitutional rights and playing the fear card on me, to collect (illegally) information on me and other citizens, and you should be too.
