Impossible though. We would be either in all day or all night. But I do not think we will have an all summer or all winter as some suggest here. Seasons are possible only if earth stops rotating on its own axis. So there is a difference between orbiting and rotating on its own axis. If earth only stops orbiting, it would gradually lose its path and fall in to sun, due to Sun's enormous pull. That means the counteracting force is completely absent for earth. Life is impossible!
In short I can say, No (Yahoo!) answer(s).

contrary to what others are saying. If we stopped for some reason, we wouldnt all die. There would be one season indefinately. Depending on what season we were stuck in the other three wouldnt exist. Night time would be definate for one side, and daytime for the other. This would have a dramatic effect on weather patterns, and ecosystems. Weather patterns would change due to the tilt of the earths axis and unequal heating and cooling on its surface. If the earth is still spinning but not orbiting the sun, we would still have a magnetic field, if the earth was just stationary, we would lose our magnetic field, and thus would die. Magnetic fields protect us from the Suns magnetic solar flares.

Rotation of Earth on its axis is responsible for magnetism and Day and Night cycle. Orbiting around Sun is responsible for seasons, and Year cycle. If earth rotate on its axis, but stop orbiting, it will have almost constant season all the time.

if the earth stops orbiting the sun, then we'd either be stuck in winter, fall, spring, or summer
if it keeps rotating we'd still have day and night
if the earth some how strayed from the sun or moved towards the sun(more then usual), we'd die

If the earth stops Orbiting then there will be a contious summer for one part and contiuous winter for other part and there will be no wind to live for the living things.

If there is sun, earth cannot stop revloving around the sun, and when the sun will distroy it will eject great energy, which will distroy the earth and other planets therefore there will be nothing to revolve around the sun.
