We get people like Bush, and they are all corrupt before they reach Washington!
And we have a Representative Republic which is bi-camel!
The issue becomes when one branch tries to usurp too much power from the other branches, Washington warned us not to go down that road!

In a presidential model, the executive is chosen separately by th people, and is a separate independent branch of govt. In a parliamentary model, the executive is chosen primarily by the legislature (parliament) and is not entirely independent.
The disadvantages of an independent executive are that it is more open to abuse of power, if the executive decides to ignore the laws. It allows for an easier transition to dictatorship, because the executive has a stronger independent power base.
We've seen this in several countries over the past century.

in parlimentary government the ruling party takes a collective decision t by the cabinet of ministers with the power decentralised in the parliament where the opposition can voice its concern and put any amendments to vote and defeat the government. In Presidential form of government the president can act like a dictator with his veto power and need not answer to anybody till his term is over unless he is impeached by the senate.

Sometimes you get a great President and an honorable leader like President Bush, sometimes you get a power hungry hick like Clinton just looking to bang ugly interns and pardon all of his corrupt buddies.

When a president and Congress are of differing parties and are both highly partisan, progress isn't made. If a highly partisan President and highly partisan Congress of the same party take control, crony-ism ("Oh-you're-loyal-so-you-can-run-FEMA, etc) is inevitable.
