If it 'feels' right to wait, you are right, usually when something is trying to unfold in your life, you'd know it.
If you are just passing time, you wouldn't feel that eager anticipation that you'd have when you are waiting, only because it is time to wait, as life waiting to unfold for you.
Waiting is normally for you to shift your energies or mental state to match the new leap in career or abundance or well being.
So, even in the waiting period, you'd be guided to do things to shift your energies, so that you are more in tune with what you are about to receive, in your life. It is all about the fact that we attract what we feeling right now, so if we begin to vibrate at a happier note we will start attracting happy events.
That is why, in the waiting being actively tuned in to your intuition is of crucial importance, as you are being prepared to receive the new you.
Normally we are impatient, as we want things to happen according to our time clock and norms of the society. But nature seldom works that way, we just have to sometimes let go, and wait for it to happen for us, and it does if we trust and are willing to wait, if our patience doesn’t get the better of us.

My husband has no patience, only wants instant gratification. It has been positive with respect to career, but that's about all. It has mostly put us way deep into debt because he has to have everything NOW. Even with some of the jobs, he moved on too soon and got into a couple companies that were having problems, because he didn't research them carefully. Then we had to move again, which is very expensive.
Waiting is generally a good thing, I think. However, you can wait too long and have things pass you by. Wait just long enough to be sure that thing is really what you want, then move boldly, would be my advice. Sometimes you will make mistakes and move too soon, etc., but experience will teach you more about that and you will get better at determining when is the right time to do something.

You ask whether waiting for that big break in life is a proper choice. We talk philosophy, but it is best to use a concrete example, and to project from there.
It all depends on the situation. Most actors never get rich or famous. In part, they accept low-paying jobs, even the possibility of never making it big, for the chance of fame and the big bucks. This is a professional gamble, to be done only if you are sure of your talent and circumstances. Somebody said it is easy to get on top, the difficult part is to stay. Big breaks are actually common. Talent (or skill) has to be present, or else the people who give the opportunity will chose elsewhere. You have to be sure of the circumstances, that the break is actually there, and that you have a realistic chance at it. Some people are supposedly waiting for a big break, but they would not know what to do if it ever comes. Simply put, they are unwilling to strive for progress in their present life, and use the big break as an excuse.
Of course, it is easy to make this accusation when you talk about others. It is much harder to look at yourself, and tell whether you are taking a professional gamble or you are just avoiding effort. More cannot be said until you check particular circumstances, but the important differences are that you are actively looking for this big chance, that you would know how to take advantage of it, that you are fully aware of the probabilities involved, that you would recognize false hopes, that you would recognize a point when you could tell this big break is not coming. There may be other differences, but those depend on the particular situation.

Most philosophies and religions speak to the positive aspects of having patience and learning to wait. The fastest route is not always the best. Wanting something today that won't happen for 10 years is also something of an issue.
Impatience usually requires people be frustrated and disappointed.

That's a question that been asked a long time.
Some things you have to wait for, save for. But personal belief is that life is short. If you want something, you go for it if you can. You don't want to look back down the line and regret not doing things you could have. I've always seen waiting as missing out on what could have been.

life happens and you don't always have a choice so you can't always choose to wait or not, but yes sometimes it might be better to wait for some things and not give up, on the other hand there is a time to give up and let things be

i think this is a problematic one..
one can say yes and the other no.. depending on the philosophical system.. but i can't point one though (he he)
as for me.. waiting can be like hoping.. i think waiting is not wrong if there is a high probability of it to come true..

Sometimes we must be patient and wait for things, but we must also take actions to make those things happen.

patience is a virtue --- nothing comes easy in life without hard work --- for those who get it 'easy ' usually don't turn out any good . good luck for your path in life
