If you "ain't got nothing" you do have something to lose. You will lose your teeth because you don't have money to go to a dentist. You will lose your mind, because you can't pay for an education.

When you "have nothing" (no responsibilities to others, no reputation to protect, no money to lose, no possessions to forfeit, etc) then you have the freedom to take greater risks in your business, professional, and personal life.
