yes absolutey. In fact anemones are just another invert that should in most cases only be kept in a species only tank. some fish will get eaten by anemones so you are beter off not even keeping one unless you keep it in a tank by itself. Clownfish host anemones by no means require you to have one. Percula clownfish are tank raised and in most cases never seen one in thier lives, i have a percula clownfish and a carpet anemone and the clownfish has never once even gone near the anemone he like to host my powerhead. So the answer is no you dont need an anemone in a marine tank.

Anemone's are NOT just like plants.
Yes ALL saltwater fish including clownfish can and WILL survive without one.
There is absolutly NO reason that you NEED an anemone UNLESS you want to have one.

Yes, Anemones are just like plants (as far as care goes). They all have special requirements but are not necessary. I have heard terrible stories of people losing great fish to anemones and vice versa.

yes, they will be fine anenomes are actually kind of difficult and require very intense lighting, halides are a must. check out wetwebmedia.com for more advice
