Diamond is by far the hardest known mineral occurring in nature.
For the past decade Cubic Boron Nitride has been the hardest man made substance and has been very important for steel working/construction (although diamond is much harder than steel, it reacts with iron, so it can not be used for cutting it.)
Now, things that are harder than diamond:
"Aggregated carbon nanorods" - recently produced by a German university in 2005 is now the hardest known material. 11.1 on the Mohs scale!!
"rhenium diboride" - rivals the hardness of diamond and is harder (able to scratch diamond) across one of its planes. It was recently released by a research group at UCLA (the group that I work for, hehe)
Also, keep in mind that despite what others have said in their answers concrete IS very, very hard. Some concrete mixtures (such as those used in nuclear power plants) have hardness' approaching 8.5 on the Mohs scale. that's harder than hardened steel which is at most an 8!!!

Diamond is the hardest substance in the world. Many stones are also quite hard. There is a Moh's scale of hardness from 1 to 10 and 10 is the hardest. 1 is the softest substance.
