You don't have to buy the book. 19 dollars is not so much money for a spiritual work (a book), considering how much money we all spend on rubbish like junk food, bad movies, unnecessary clothes, drinks, clubs or comemrcial music, etc. It is up to everyone how they spend their money. If you don't like the books, don't buy them. I personnally bought 2 copies and I feel no one has the right to jugde my choice of how i spend the money I earn.

I don't think it is overpriced, because a. it would cost more eve to photocopy the book, without profit made, b. I heard that shops have lowered the price so much, because of competition, that actually the profit from every book is minimal. Don't forget how many people work and live on this publication (secretaries, editors, publishers, sellers, etc.)!

And finally, just to let you know that I am an educated person, not a teenager, with a PhD, I have read a lot of classic litterature of all times, and I still think Harry Potter books are excellent, so it is not a matter of trend or lack of education.

There are people who might actually not look at buying the book as a waste of money, whether they can afford it or not.

But I do agree that the book is WAY overpriced. Considering the number of copies it's selling, JKR could still be as rich as she is even if she sold a book at like $1. It would get more buyers too.

But point is, it's priced the way it is and ppl still do buy it. Why would they pull prices down when they're getting millions of buyers at $19?

I'm not a fan of Harry Potter books but I am a fan of JK Rowling she was a single mother on welfare that got off her butt and did something with her life (my bet is that if you struck the jackpot you would enjoy your money like she is).
If you don't want to pay the price go to the library or wait a few weeks as the second hand stores will be flooded with them.

Because in America people is easily impressed by futilities like that. Mention them Cervantes, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Alexander Dumas and they think you are talking about new brands of toothpaste.
