Pratibha Patil (Marathi:प्रतिभा पाटिल) (Her name after marriage is Pratibha Devisingh Shekhavat प्रतिभा देविसिंह शेखावत)(born December 19, 1934) is the first female President-elect of India. She is also the first Maharashtrian to hold this post. She is a member of the Indian National Congress and was the nominee of the ruling United Progressive Alliance and Indian Left. She won the last presidential election, held on July 19, 2007 defeating her nearest rival Bhairon Singh Shekhawat by over 300,000 (value) votes. She will take office as India's first female president on July 25.
