If potter is the only thing worth reading these days then lets close all other sections of the libraries and bookshops and just leave the childrens section
come on people i think its time to wait a few years for harrys testicles to drop and then give him a swift kick in them.
These books are aimed at the pre puberty generation people so dont you think its about time you stopped obsessing over the little scrote and read some literature of an adult persuasion?

OH and just as a point of interest JK Bulldog licking piss off a nettle faced Rowling wrote this book while claiming benefits from the government as she was later paid a considerable amount of money for these publications this should surely constitute fraudulent behaviour on her part this is a serious crime and god willing will lead to a long term prison sentence one preferably without any writing materials

NOT ME. I'm bloody sick to death of hearing about it..
Did you notice on TV, the only people queing at the bookstores were really UGLY NERDY looking twentysomethings who don't have anything better to do with there little sad lives than to read CHILDRENS BOOKS...
They need to get out more and start living in the real world..

Your question makes you sound very arrogant and pompous.
I'd much rather read an absorbing, witty, intuitive, exciting children's book than reading some of the utter crap that shows up in the adult section. for example: MIlls and boon, marian keyes, catherine allliot, tom clancy, dean koontz. It's a question of taste. but judging by your wording above, you only take your own tastes into consideration so this side of the debate might be lost on you.
The Harry Potter books may not be comparable to James Joyce but they are a bloody good read. They have done so much for promoting literature and libraries to younger people. How dare you say that books for children are somehow of lesser value than adult books. People say the same thing about tolkien.

If being an adult means being confined to the tediousness of the real world, with no imagination and unbelievable boredom, then forget it. Real life isn't for me. I would rather stay out of real life and have my imagination intact than to be a passionless zombie punching the 9 to 5 timeclock and only reading things that don't even appeal to me. I like Harry Potter; it keeps my imagination active and therefore healthy. I'm sorry to see that people have to judge other adults for what they read, but then again that's all part of our prejudiced society, isn't it?
You really shouldn't let what other people do with their spare times bother you. You don't like Harry Potter? Well, that works for you and I'm glad for you. But people will read and do what they want when they want, and no amount of Harry Potter bashing or imagination bashing will ever change that.

I'm an adult (with no children) and I love reading the books! They appeal to my active imagination and I also love the fact that you can see where she gets ideas for things, such as spells or names having the root based in latin.
I don't think they're the greatest books ever written but neither do I think they're strictly childrens books. There are plenty of adult themes in them such as politics or violence.
I think its a great achievement that shes got kids reading the books who would normally be stuck in front of a TV or computer all day.
You say the books are aimed at the pre puberty generation but lots of things are-look at the simpsons, shrek or south park, they're all juvenile and adults love them!

I'm not a fan of HP but the thing is many so-called adults read some very childish stuff like NUTS magazine or watch Neighbours. So what if you don't approve, nobody asked for it. At least people are reading books and they might go onto more grownup stuff.

Just because it's ABOUT kids doesn't mean its only for kids. The best thing about Harry Potter is anyone can read it and enjoy it- unless they have some ridiculous mindset of "only for kids".
And FYI, I read (and love) Harry Potter and I also read so-called "adult" literature.

They're an entertaining read. Embrace your inner child. At least when you're reading them, the minimal innuendo is funny rather than cloying.
And they're aimed at everyone, considering there is some quite amusing humor in them that would go a bit over the heads of the pre-pubescent kiddies.
