I would not use glass. Glass is one incredible transducer. You can take your speaker coil assembly, attach it to glass and make a speaker out o the glass.

In government, in particular, there is an increasing amount of spying going on by aiming highly directional mikes at windows to catch the sound inside the room. This is handled, as mentioned above, by modulating the glass, putting a pink noise spectrum into it to interrupt the capacity to hear things from the outside.

Glass is more of a reflector. I converted my garage into our bands studio. I added two windows where the roller door used to be...but put heavy curtains over them. I also purchased old theater curtains for the side walls to dampen the sound.

There are two things to think about. Do you want just sound dampening or sound Flattening for recording...or both. Most of the studio building techniques now days use double walls a few inches apart. The air between the walls works well for sound dampening. What you want for recording sound quality is lots of angles. Shinny flat surfaces are not good. Break up flat surfaces with Acoustic tile arrangements, Foam, Thick Curtains, etc.

There are a lot of home recording sites on the web that will give more specific info, and most likely someone a lot smarter than me will give you more LOL

Good luck

What you want is foam. Glass will resonate to some degree, passing on the sound wave. Foam absorbs the wave, particularly if it comes at an angle (ever seen the baffling on studio walls?).

If your intention is to insulate the others including your family members from the sound of drums, use glass wool or thermocole (polystyrene foam) as insulator.

If you want to pass light or see through it think layers. Plastics with dead spaces between will reduce the sound. Mount the panels with an rubber or foam gasket so the sound is not transmitted through the mountings.
